Your baby sister Elise Kathryn is one month old today! Just a few minutes ago you kissed her and whispered to her, “I'm glad you're part of our family!”. That really characterizes your attitude toward her – you seem to be old enough to really cherish how tiny and sweet and cute she is. You are always offering to hold her, or leaning over her giving kisses and whispers. It is so fun to see such a tender side of you – because you are often anything but!
Formal school has been somewhat on hold, but thankfully the weather is nicer so you have been able to play outside and stay busy. The neighbor boy has come over quite a bit. He tends to be a bit rough and you guys have a fair amount of conflict, but he is willing to play soccer or baseball with you (unlike Abby) so you still like him to come. You've also really been clicking with Daniel at church – he's just a bit younger than you but very fun and sweet.
Last weekend was your big exciting birthday party (six years old!). You chose to invite your cousins to the WaTiki waterpark. It was fun because you are tall enough now to reach bottom in most of the pools (not to mention you are a decent swimmer), so you and Christian got to do the slides by yourselves! Afterwards you told me you wished you could LIVE at WaTiki. You asked for fried chicken and biscuits for supper, and your favorite gifts were a pogo stick and cowboy boots (to replace your much-loved-and-worn-out pair).
Another gift was a knights and castle Lego set. Although I sat next to you and answered questions while you built it, you read the (pictorial) directions and assembled it yourself! You've also started reading labels, signs, and captions for yourself, along with a few books “just for fun”. We watched some family videos of you at one, two and three years old. You were so adorable! But it is so fun to see you grow and “come into your own” as well!
Tomorrow is your first baseball game. Daddy said that you were the best player at the first practice (he didn't tell you that though). Apparently you hit the ball off of the tee all the way to the fence! And were throwing really hard. It's fun for me to hear, because you and I have been playing backyard whiffle ball together since you were two! At track and field day you placed fourth and fifth in your races but second in the softball throw! It will be fun to see if you really enjoy baseball the way Daddy did as a boy.
